WEDNESDAY
SHILO:
CRAIG:
ACTUAL SCHEDULE: 8:00 Survivor; 9:00 SEAL Team; 10:00 Criminal Minds
SHILO: So I predicted CBS Wednesdays, but I still think they’re making a mistake. With Criminal Minds back, the network has a very strong 10:00 slot to go along with a strong 8:00, meaning that there’s a prime opportunity for a 9:00 show to be hammocked in a good situation. SEAL Team does well with total viewers and in non-linear measures, meaning that it probably could’ve survived a move, so either CBS doesn’t care about the obvious mismatch between it and Survivor (at least in terms of demo/skew) or they were backed into holding SEAL here because of NBC’s tri-Chicago Wednesday. They wouldn’t want to put, say, FBI here and have a Dick Wolf Off and while they seem confident in Magnum, throwing it a crime drama that targets a similar audience would be mutually assured destruction. And I’m guessing that since Survivor has shown no signs of age, they feel like they can hold pat here and see how NBC Wednesdays shakes down. It just feels like a missed opportunity, though.
CRAIG: If it ain’t broke… CBS wisely renewed Criminal Minds so the show gets to Episode 300, and I guess there really wasn’t another place for SEAL Team. CBS has other things to worry about than Wednesdays, so I understand keeping it as is.
