NBC has renewed Blindspot for a fifth and final season, it was confirmed today.
The news is something of a surprise considering the lack of space the network currently has and the fact that they pulled the show off the schedule for May sweeps. Generally, being pulled off the schedule is a sign that your cancellation is all but official, especially in the case of a veteran like this. Its renewal likely has to do with the show’s strong international presence and lucrative SVOD deal with Netflix, which made series producer Warner Bros. do what it needed to have the show get to 100 episodes.
It remains to be seen how big the order for Blindspot season five will be. One would think that it’d assume more of a schedule filler role since this is a final season and NBC doesn’t own it, but stranger things have happened.
The remaining episodes of Blindspot season four will begin airing later this month on NBC.
