Showtime has announced that Don Cheadle comedy Black Monday has been given a series order.
“Black Monday is a scathing comic commentary on the excess of the ’80s,” said Showtime president David Nevins said. “Don Cheadle, Andrew Rannells, and Regina Hall lead a hilarious cast that takes on blue-blooded Wall Street as the Bad News Bears of Wall Street trading firms.”
From David Caspe (Happy Endings) and Jordan Cahan (My Best Friend’s Girl), with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Future Man) producing, Black Monday focuses the worst stock market crash in Wall Street history – October 19th, 1987 (aka “Black Monday”). The series follows a group of outsiders as they take on the Wall Street establishment and ended up crashing the world’s largest financial system.
In addition to Cheadle, Black Monday stars Andrew Rannells (Girls), Regina Hall (Girls Trip), Paul Scheer (The League), Yassir Lester (Champions), Michael James Scott (The Carrie Diaries), and Eugene Cordero (Kong: Skull Island), with recurring guest star Casey Wilson (Marry Me) and guest stars Ken Marino (Childrens Hospital) and Kurt Braunohler (Bunk).
Black Monday joins a comedy slate for Showtime that includes SMILF and upcoming Jim Carrey vehicle Kidding. The cabler also recently ordered City On a Hill, a new drama executive produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
The 10-episode first season of Black Monday is set to premiere 2019 on Showtime.
