Deadline is reporting that Freeform has opted to cancel sci-fi drama Beyond after two seasons.
The move comes after the series, which was the first Freeform series to release an entire season for binge watching, dropped 50% in the ratings after moving to Thursdays at 8:00, airing without an original scripted lead-in, and not having its full season made available after the season premiere. It was included in the first wave of Freeform’s new scheduling strategy, which eschews original scripted pairings for movie lead-ins and more L+SD time thanks to an 8:00 start time. Rather than stacking their assets, Freeform has spread them so that Thursdays belong to genre shows, Wednesdays are for comedies, Tuesdays house dramas, and Mondays entertain their latest forays into unscripted.
From Adam Nussdorf (Once Upon a Time in Wonderland) and executive produced by Tim Kring (Heroes), Beyond told the story of Holden Matthews (Burkely Duffield), who wakes up from a 12-year coma and discovers that not only does he have supernatural abilities but said abilities have made him the target of a major conspiracy.
In addition to Duffield, Beyond starred the likes of Jordan Calloway (Riverdale), Michael McGrady (Ray Donovan), and Romy Rosemont (Glee).
The now-series finale of Beyond aired earlier this month on Freeform.
