Only a week after it was announced that The CW was going forward with their Beauty & The Beast pilot, ABC has officially ordered a pilot for a Beauty & The Beast pilot too.
The CW pilot is based on the CBS TV series that starred Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton, re-imagined in a modern day where Vincent even has a last name. (Its “Koslow,” in case you’re curious, and he’s a human who has been experimented on, rather than a creature that lives with an underground society beneath the city. Vincent Koslow even has a roommate). The ABC pilot is described at TVLine as “a fantastical reimagining of the classic fairy tale, set in a mythical, dangerous world wherein a beautiful and tough Princess discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast.” Sounds like a tale as old as time, to us…
Producers for the ABC Beast include Jon Steinberg (Human Target), Gary Fleder (Life Unexpected), and Mary Beth Basile (October Road). Sounds like a winning team to us. Now the question is: Will either of these hit the air? Which one will be better? Let the beast show win. And if you can’t wait for Fall 2012 for your beauties and beasts, check out the Once Upon A Time episode “Skin Deep” in a few weeks for an alternative take on the story.

Let the battle of furries commence!
Seriously though…I don’t know what I’m rooting for. I like the present day, realistic aspect of the remake. That could be cool. But I do fear that, being CW, it’ll be way more teen soapy than it needs to be. Not that that’s ALWAYS a bad thing, but I’d prefer this done more maturely, as opposed to just something like the current Teen Wolf series.
ABC I have more faith in. BUT, I’m not sure I like the fairy tale setting. That seems to be the “thing” now with Once Upon A Time having relative success and the Snow White movies coming out. But too much of that could get irritating. So I feel like it could be a competent pilot, but…not sure about another fairy tale thing.
I’m on the fence, honestly.
Two Beauty and the Beast TV series on competing networks. Fairy tales are huge now! I don’t think this would have happened if Once Upon a Time wasn’t so big now.
CW cant pick it now, they should just get rid off it. And let ABC have their ways.
Of course we all know that ABC will cancel it in no time.
