On Tuesday, Netflix released the trailer for upcoming space drama Away and in it, we see a family torn apart by duty to something much greater.
Loosely inspired by a December 2014 Chris Jones article for Esquire, with Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights) executive producing and Jessica Goldberg (The Path) acting as showrunner, Away follows American astronaut Emma Green (Hilary Swank) as she must leave her husband and daughter behind to command an international space crew embarking upon a treacherous mission.
In addition to Swank, the series stars Josh Charles (The Good Wife) as Emma’s husband Matt, a NASA engineer dealing with major health issues and the loneliness and fear associated with being on the ground while his wife is on a dangerous space mission; Talitha Bateman (Love, Simon) as Emma and Matt’s daughter Alexis, forced to grow up a little quicker due to the circumstances impacting her parents; Ato Essandoh (Altered Carbon) as rookie astronaut Kwesi, a British-Ghanian botanist; Mark Ivanir (Homeland) as Russian cosmonaut Misha, who works as the ship’s engineer; Ray Panthaki (Gangs of London) as Ram, an Indian astronaut who’s the ship’s medic, co-pilot, and second-in-command; and Vivian Wu (Cathy Yan’s Dead Pigs) as Lu, a Chinese taikonaut and the crew’s geologist and chemist.
Away premieres Friday, September 4th on Netflix.
