ABC has confirmed that family comedy American Housewife has been renewed for a fourth season.
American Housewife has turned into something of a utility player for ABC, as it’s occupied four slots in three seasons and likely will be in a fifth new slot if/when it returns in the fall. After showing a lot of promise in its first season, when it followed The Middle, ABC moved the show to Wednesdays at 9:30 after Modern Family, thinking that could give the show the sampling necessary to assume the 9:00 slot. However, American Housewife didn’t pop post-Modern Family and subsequently bounced to Wednesdays at 8:30 and Tuesdays at 8:00.
It’s an owned show entering its syndication season in 2019-20, so the network will still give it a decent slot to rack up episodes. With The Conners likely returning to Tuesdays at 8:00 and used to launch a new comedy, the most probable destinations for American Housewife are Tuesdays at 9:00 or Tuesdays at 8:00 midseason, where it subs in for The Conners and airs its 22+ episodes straight through.
The season finale of American Housewife is set to air Tuesday, May 14th at 8:00 on ABC.
What have you thought about season three? Where would you like to see the show scheduled next season? Is there anything you want to see more/less of in season four?
