Shadow Moon thought that agreeing to work with Mr. Wednesday would provide him the type of direction he needed after being released from prison. Not only would he be making money while not reentering a society judgmental of those who’ve served time, he would have a welcomed distraction from Laura’s death. Without the job with Mr. Wednesday, Shadow would wallow in his own grief and not push himself forward the way he needed, but while there’s a constructive element to his new life, he’s still not fully aware of the dangers that come with aligning with an old god, even after the recent attack.
On tonight’s episode of American Gods, Mr. Wednesday begins his recruitment of fellow old gods in their battle against the new gods by heading for Chicago. His first target? Czernobog (Peter Stromare), the Slavic god of darkness and evil. He’d make a considerable ally for Mr. Wednesday, given both his power and the fact that no one wants the god of darkness on the other side of the battlefield, but he’s hesitant about this latest request, as he’s wary of joining forces with Mr. Wednesday and skeptical that the old gods can muster the man power to down the new gods and assert their authority over humanity at large. But he does give Mr. Wednesday one condition – he’ll join the fight against the new gods if Wednesday can win game of checkers.
