Being released from prison early should be a good thing for Shadow Moon. It’s an opportunity to bask in the freedom he once took for granted, a moment where he can decide to do things differently. This is where his life could take a necessary positive turn. Unfortunately, the circumstances for Shadow’s release aren’t exactly a good facilitator for hope, as the reason he was released was the death of his wife Laura. Lonely, angry, and filled with grief, Shadow must try to find a sense of purpose at a time when he’s as directionless as he could get.
On the series premiere of American Gods, Shadow Moon accepts a job as a bodyguard for Mr. Wednesday, a con man looking to make a cross-country journey. Needing to make some quick money, and in no mood to go back to the house he and Laura once shared, Shadow takes Wednesday up on the offer, not realizing that his new companion is an Old God looking to recruit those of his ilk in a war against the New Gods. Shadow thought that he was getting a new chance at life by accepting this position, but instead he’s now in the center of a brutally violent war for life itself and unwittingly entangled on one side of the battle.
Joining a drama slate that includes Power, Outlander, and The White Princess, American Gods stars Ricky Whittle (The 100), Ian McShane (Deadwood), Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is the New Black), and Crispin Glover (Back to the Future).
The series premiere of American Gods airs tonight at 9:00 on Starz.
