CRAIG: 8:00 DC’s Legends of Tomorrow; 9:00 Dynasty
SHILO: 8:00 Charmed; 9:00 Dynasty
CRAIG: It would be incredibly bold to launch a new series on Fridays, but I don’t think it’s happening…. yet.
I waffled on which show to put here: For a while, I considered Black Lightning, but I think that series deserves a better spot, so it might be best to wait for a good position at midseason. Instead, I’ve shunted off the misfits from The CW’s most fun DC show – DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – to Friday, the night of misfit TV, where I think the audience is loyal enough to follow. Hey, Smallville did quite well here, remember!
SHILO: One of the other reasons I felt like Glamorous would be mid-week is because I have Charmed moving to Fridays, so CBS needed a bone. If you had asked me earlier this season, I would’ve said that Charmed would stay mid-week for season two, but its ratings have fallen enough that, while it’s still doing alright, The CW likely had to act if this is going to be a long-term piece for them. Arguably, Fridays at 8:00 could be considered a better slot than Sundays at 9:00 since The CW’s 8:00 shows benefit a lot from the local lead-in, there’s no genre competition in the hour, and Charmed‘s okay non-linear numbers could mean more people watching in L+SD thank to the earlier hour.
I figured that since Dynasty is alive for reasons other than ratings, giving it what could be a decent lead-in should make pushing it to 9:00 much easier. I do wonder whether The CW is going to give it 22 episodes again to take advantage of its Netflix deal or Reign it by cutting the order and still airing it in fall. Or even give it 18-22 episodes but keep it for midseason and have it bleed over into the summer.
