THURSDAY
SHILO: 8:00 Supernatural; 9:00 Legacies
CRAIG: 8:00 Supernatural; 9:00 The Lost Boys
SHILO: I would’ve been all about a Supernatural/Lost Boys lineup, but the latter hasn’t been mentioned yet in any of the pilot buzz articles that’ve been released, which leads to me to believe that its post-production is taking a long-ish time or it’s not in contention for next season. I lean the latter, so I decided to hold pat on Thursdays with Supernatural and Legacies. The two were a good pairing this year and I think The CW would want to compile a possible Legacies Netflix bump with the increased exposure from the final season of Supernatural to help both shows. This could possibly groom Legacies to take over the Thursdays at 8:00 slot in 2020-2021 once Supernatural signs off for good.
CRAIG: The Lost Boys TV adaptation looks like it could easily be the spiritual heir to Supernatural and it has a lead actor young fans know and like in Tyler Posey. It also comes from Rob Thomas’ production stable, and now that iZombie is done, The CW will want to stay in the Rob Thomas business. Launching the show in the Fall would give the show a chance to gain that Supernatural audience, much like my thinking with pairing Batwoman and Arrow.
Yes, it is kind of insane that a Supernatural spin-off didn’t work out while the show was still a thing, but this is what we’ve got. I will be curious what the network does when Supernatural vacates; if The CW didn’t have so much programming, I would even recommend a “Best of Supernatural” repeats run from the 15 seasons of the show.
