TUESDAY
SHILO: 8:00 The Flash; 9:00 All American
CRAIG: 8:00 The Flash; 9:00 Roswell New Mexico
SHILO: I totally get the notion of iZombie-ing Roswell and trying to see if the show can benefit from fall exposure/marketing. I also totally get putting Batwoman here, which would provide it with a big, compatible lead-in and supercharge it upon the conclusion of the crossover. I went a little different route with All American; it’s a show that The CW clearly loves, given Mark Pedowitz’s comments about it at TCA and how eager they were to renew it, and I think it’s headed for some type of time slot upgrade. An 8:00 slot might be more appropriate since they’re looking to capitalize on Netflix buzz, but Sunday, Monday, and Thursday all have NFL packages in the fall, while Friday is home to high school football and doesn’t feel like a slot they’d push it (yet). I suppose keeping it on Wednesdays is a possibility, but I’ll believe they’d move Riverdale when they actually do it and Riverdale‘s softening ratings could negate whatever Netflix bump All American is able to muster.
Therefore, I think The CW shoots for the moon here, giving All American a big lead-in with no football competition and hoping that the combination of Flash exposure and Netflix buzz can help the show’s L+SD ratings.
CRAIG: While I was tempted to put [The Haunting of] Nancy Drew here — and maybe it could go at midseason — it might be best to stay the course and continue to grow the audience for the recently-renewed Roswell New Mexico in the Fall.
