The final episode of Two and a Half Men just finished on the East Coast, and those of us in the rest of the country might want to know if original series star Charlie Sheen came back.
Well… Charlie Harper was indeed still alive, but Charlie Sheen was nowhere to be seen. There was an animated sequence showing what really happened with Charlie and Rose in Paris, and there were surprise guest stars such as Angus T. Jones, Marin Hinkle, and Arnold Schwarzenegger… but, no Charlie.
The finale itself was, however, a tribute to the 12 seasons of the show, with a lot of inside jokes for longtime fans. If you’re on the West Coast and haven’t seen it yet, it’s worth tuning in to see if creator Chuck Lorre had the last laugh, or if Charlie Harper did indeed get his revenge.
UPDATE: Chuck Lorre did explain some of the behind-the-scenes story about Charlie Sheen and the finale in his vanity card for the episode. Here’s what it read:
I know a lot of you might be disappointed that you didn’t get to see Charlie Sheen in tonight’s finale. For the record, he was offered a role. Our idea was to have him walk up to the front door in the last scene, ring the doorbell, then turn, look directly into the camera and go off on a maniacal rant about the dangers of drug abuse. He would then explain that these dangers only applies to average people. That he was far from average. He was a ninja warrior from Mars. He was invincible.
And then we would drop a piano on him.
We thought it was funny.
He didn’t.
Instead, he wanted us to write a heart-warming scene that would set up his return to primetime TV in a new sitcom called The Harpers starring him and Jon Cryer.
We thought that was funny too.
