Advance Review: The 100 Season Finale Airs Tonight!

Realistically, if you haven’t seen the first 12 episodes of The 100, you probably might not want to start with the end of the first part of the story tonight. But, if you’ve watched the series so far, or if you’re wise enough to binge-watch and catch up over the summer, “We Are Grounders, Part II” is a fantastic capper to a very good first season of the show.

We Are Grounders – Part IIThe first season of The 100 succeeded on many levels: There’s pretty much a favorite character for anyone, and danger lurks around every corner. The characters on the ground and the characters on the Ark both have decisions to make and battles to fight, and in the 13 episodes, alliances shift and characters that you never expected to see working together or liking one another suddenly are. The Clarke/Bellamy interaction, for example, has evolved, even though there are times like this finale where the two still butt heads.

There was a long list of “do not reveals” when it came to the screener we watched of the finale, so there isn’t a lot I can specifically mention. I can say that more than one group fights to survive and it doesn’t look like everyone will make it. There are a few “did that just happen?!?!” moments, which The 100 is often very good for. There’s action of a movie-like scale. The effects budget looks astronomical. There’s one particular performance in general that tears me up, with the actor or actress in question (who I’ll specifically call out at a later time, so as to not spoil anyone) just KILLS it.

I’m very curious what will come next season for the show, where it will remain Wednesdays at 9PM following Arrow. If you haven’t seen the show before, as I mentioned, binge-watch; it is worth it, and surely a DVD set will come out later this year that will also be a good way to catch up.

The 100 season finale airs at 9PM (ET) tonight (June 11) on The CW. Read some of our other content related to the show and the finale, including some photos, here at KSiteTV!
