This year, TV audiences will say goodbye to the critically-acclaimed and viewer-loved Bob❤️Abishola starring Billy Gardell and Fọlákẹ́ Olówófôyekù. The series, from producers Chuck Lorre, Gina Yashere, and Matt Ross, is set to end its run May 13 on CBS.
The stars and producers of the series recently spoke on a Warner Bros. Television studio day as part of the Television Critics Association Press Tour, where they were asked about their expectations for the series finale.
“As a wise man once told me, you let the club do the work,” Billy Gardell told the audience. “We have the best writers in the business, headed by the best writer [Chuck Lorre] in the business. And so, it’s about trust down here.”
“One thing that is a Chuck staple is that if we don’t care about the characters, then we don’t care as an audience,” Gardell continued. “And so I think the relationship here has, one, it has shown that love wins no matter what. Doesn’t matter what you look like, where you’re from. Doesn’t matter. Love is love. And I think that’s vital and I think we captured that. And then what I love most about this show is, it’s a reminder that when you marry someone, you marry their family. Yeah, see? You know what I’m talking about. And that’s a gift, man. It’s a gift and it’s patience, and if you do it right, it brings you closer together as a couple and I think we have highlighted that. I think and Bob and Abishola are settled in to their marriage and they’ve given gifts to each other. She’s taught him how to be more stoic and more focused and he’s taught her how to lighten up. And any good relationship, if it’s a give and a give, it’s a win. And I believe we have — I think we’re there, I think we’re there. Yeah. I’m trying to treasure these last episodes because I really do think we’re playing at our highest level right now.”
Fọlákẹ́ Olówófôyekù added that she feels that the journey has unfolded “quite beautifully.”
“When you actually think about the fact that in the beginning, Bob was chasing Abishola down with socks and now they’re married and they’re living together, and they’re talking… they’re parenting Dele and dealing with that together…. It’s evolved in a way that I personally have no experience with, but have been just so happy to see unfold. And I would model one of my relationships — one of the many — after Bob and Abishola. And regarding how it’s going to end, like Billy said, ‘We leave that up to the pros.’ We don’t have — we don’t get the script until a day before we start working on the episode. So what you guys see, we literally have worked on it for only a week, off book and everything, before we go up here live. And that’s quite impressive. So, we don’t know how it’s going to unfold, but I trust our writers impeccably that it will unfold magically and romantically.”
New episodes of Bob❤️Abishola air Mondays on CBS.
