One of the original human stars of Sesame Street, Bob McGrath, has passed away at the age of 90.
“The McGrath family has some sad news to share. Our father Bob McGrath, passed away today. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family,” his family shared on Facebook.
Bob McGrath was a part of Sesame Street from the very beginning alongside such folks as Will Lee (Mister Hooper) and Matt Robinson (the show’s first Gordon when it went to series) who have also passed away. Dr. Loretta Long, who played Susan, is still with us. In early pilot episodes of the show, the familiar Sesame Street theme music was actually sung by Bob, and you can see that below.
Bob’s last appearance on the Street was in the Sesame Street 50th Anniversary Celebration which also marked the final appearances on camera for the late Caroll Spinney (the original Big Bird) who died in 2019 and Emilio Delgado who passed away earlier this year.
