The CW has found their Powerpuff Girls for a live-action pilot and the trio will be played by Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Dove Cameron (The Descendants), and Yana Perrault (Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill).
The pilot, which hopes for a spot on The CW’s already superhero-filled 2021-2022 schedule, comes from writers and executive producers Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody, with Cody executive producing via Vita Vera Films. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden are also executive producing at Berlanti Productions, and Erika Kennair is also a producer. The pilot will be directed and executive produced by Maggie Kiley (Riverdale, Katy Keene).
In this updated live action take on the classic cartoon, Chloe Bennet will be playing Blossom. Though she was a spunky, conscientious, Little-Miss-Perfect child who holds several advanced degrees, she has repressed kiddie-superhero trauma has left her feeling anxious and reclusive, and she aims to become a leader again, this time on her own terms. No earthquake powers, though.
Dove Cameron is Bubbles. Her sweet-girl disposition won America’s hearts as a child. She still sparkles as an adult, but her charming exterior belies an unexpected toughness and wit. She’s initially more interested inrecapturing her fame than saving the world, but she just might surprise us and herself.
Yana Perrault is Buttercup, the “rebellious badass” of The Powerpuff Girls back in the day. More sensitive than her tough exterior suggests, Buttercup has spent her adulthood trying to shed her Powerpuff Girl identity and live an anonymous life.
