NBC has confirmed that musical comedy Perfect Harmony and Friday procedural Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector have been cancelled after one season.
Perfect Harmony was a soft performer in linear ratings and didn’t have the digital tail, awards possibility, or critical acclaim to make up for it. It also was a co-production between 20th and Universal with 20th possessing distribution rights, and featured a name lead in Bradley Whitford, so it was likely too expensive to continue on with.
Lincoln Rhyme performed passably on Friday as a fill-in for The Blacklist, but with next broadcast season likely to be shorter due to COVID-influenced production delays, and Lincoln being a co-production with an outside studio (Sony), NBC simply didn’t need it going forward.
With the cancellation of Perfect Harmony and Lincoln Rhyme, NBC’s scripted bubble is down to freshman comedy Indebted, well-received musical dramedy Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, legal drama Bluff City Law (which isn’t expected to continue), genre drama Manifest, and Council of Dads, the last of which will have a delayed renewal decision considering how far it’ll run into summer. The network should be releasing its plans for fall 2020 in the coming weeks.
