Deadline is reporting that The Deuce alum Charlie McElveen has joined ABC vampire soap pilot The Brides.
From Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale), with Greg Berlanti executive producing, The Brides is described as a contemporary reimagining of Dracula (Goran Visnjic) that focuses on the relationship between his three immortal wives and the lengths these women will go to maintain their wealth, prestige, and legacy. Per THR, the pilot features Dracula being left for dead at his destroyed castle in the Carpathian mountains while his trio of beloveds set about forging new lives together.
McElveen will play ambitious young reporter Arthur Seward, who writers about bizarre news for his local paper. He soon becomes obsessed with aspiring singer Lily (Katherine Reis), not knowing that she’s an immortal vampire.
The Brides is one of several dramas in contention at ABC for next season, joining thirtysomething sequel thirtysomething(else); family restaurant saga Harlem’s Kitchen; plane crash tale Wreckage; and legal drama Rebel, which stars Katey Sagal as an Erin Brockovitch-like figure. The network has a straight-to-series order in David E. Kelley PI drama The Big Sky, as well as decade-hopping medical drama Triage in development as a “second cycle” pilot.
Aside from his role on the HBO drama, McElveen’s only prior television credit is web series Scribbles. He joins a cast that also includes Gina Torres and Erin Richards.
