NBC has officially renewed Blindspot for a fourth season, it was confirmed today.
The series looked to be on the bubble this year after posting modest ratings in its first Friday season, but its proximity to syndication meant that production Warner Bros. had great motivation in getting it to the four-season threshold. It remains to be seen whether Blindspot will return in the fall or if the show could carry 20+ episodes later in the season, similar to how CBS has scheduled Elementary this year.
Helping Blindspot‘s renewal case was NBC’s desire for buzzy new pilot Manifest, which WB packaged with the ratings challenged drama in order to increase their presence at NBC next year.
From Jeff Rake (The Mysteries of Laura), Manifest tells the story of Montego Air Flight 828, which has what initially seems like a normal, comfortable landing following a turbulent flight. However, when its passengers and crew exit the vehicle, they come to realize that five years has passed since they took off and that their families and friends are deep in their grief over their perceived loss. With this second chance, the crew and passengers could make up for past wrongs, but a deeper mystery threatens their understanding of everything.
Manifest stars Josh Dallas (Once Upon a Time), J.R. Ramirez (24), and Melissa Roxburgh (Valor). It’s the fourth new pilot-to-series drama NBC has picked up for next season, joining New Amsterdam, The Enemy Within, and The Village.
