CBS has gotten into the upfronts game by ordering its first two new comedies for 2018-2019.
From Jim Reynolds (The Big Bang Theory), Welcome to the Neighborhood follows the nicest guy in the Midwest who moves with his family out to Los Angeles, where not everybody appreciates his sunny disposition and decided lack of cynicism. The series stars Cedric the Entertainer (The Soul Man), Dreama Walker (Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23), Josh Lawson (House of Lies), Marcel Spears (The Mayor), Sheaun McKinney (Vice Principals), and Tichina Arnold (Daytime Divas).
From Ben Winston (The Late Late Show with James Corden), the Untitled Damon Wayans Jr. Project (a more formal name will likely be announced during CBS’s upfront) tells the story of a young married couple whose quiet, somewhat boring lives are upended when a young musician moves into their spare bedroom. The series stars Damon Wayans Jr. (Happy Endings), Chris Parnell (Archer), Amber Stevens West (Ghosted), and Felix Mallard (Neighbours).
The two series join a comedy slate that includes The Big Bang Theory, Mom, and Young Sheldon. CBS still has its entire Monday comedy lineup on the bubble, as well as Thursday mainstay Life in Pieces.
