ABC has opted to cancel freshman dramedy Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, the network confirmed today.
Though ABC was said to be high on Kevin (Probably), going as far as giving it a short extension despite soft ratings and pulling The Mayor in hopes of giving the show a better lead-in, there just wasn’t enough audience there to justify a second season. Especially when you take into account ABC’s lack of space to grow dramas and the network’s intention of increasing its number of procedurals. In addition to the incompatible lead-in, the show probably suffered from airing in the wrong time slot, given its lighter and more family-friendly subject matter, but Kevin didn’t make enough of a case for itself through delayed viewing to be in consideration for renewal.
From Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters (Reaper), Kevin (Probably) Saves the World followed Kevin Finn (Jason Ritter), a man who survives a suicide attempt and ultimately moves in with his sister for support. Kevin is soon visited by a celestial being who claims that God has tasked him with saving the world, with his spiritual power accumulating through a series of good deeds. The series also chronicled Kevin’s search for the other righteous souls of his generation, others that would help him in his quest to save the world.
In addition to Ritter, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World starred JoAnna Garcia (Reba), Kimberly Hebert Gregory (Vice Principals), India de Beaufort (Jane by Design), J. August Richards (Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce), Chloe East (Ice), and Dustin Ybarra (Hop).
The series finale of Kevin (Probably) Saves the World aired this past March on ABC.
