CBS has cancelled tech procedural Wisdom of the Crowd after one season, it was confirmed today.
Poor ratings tell only half the story here. While Wisdom showed itself to be weak pretty early, regularly failing to retain even half of football-boosted 60 Minutes and languishing well below a 1.0 demo rating without it, the series had an already likely fate sealed with the allegations of sexual harassment against lead Jeremy Piven. Coming in the early days of the #MeToo movement, the allegations gave CBS the additional cover to cap the show’s order at 13 episodes, the kiss of death for any fall freshman that can be extended to 22 episodes.
Based on the Israeli series of the same name and developed for American television by Ted Humphrey (The Unit), Wisdom of the Crowd told the story of tech billionaire Jeffrey Tanner (Piven), who develops a crime crowd sourcing app in an effort to track down his daughter’s killer.
In addition to Piven, Wisdom of the Crowd starred Richard T. Jones (Santa Clarita Diet), Natalie Tena (Game of Thrones), Blake Lee (Mixology), Monica Potter (Parenthood), and Jake Matthews (Bosch).
The series finale of Wisdom of the Crowd aired in January on CBS.
