The CW Acquires Kristin Kreuk Drama Burden of Truth

The CW has announced the acquisition of Kristin Kreuk legal drama Burden of Truth, which is set to premiere this summer.

“The CW is a great fit for our new series, which combines drama and social justice with a bit of charm, led by the talented Kristin Kreuk,” said Steve Bertram, eOne’s President, Film, Television and Digital. “We are incredibly excited for audiences to see her take on this dynamo character.”

This is the second international acquisition The CW has made recently, as fantasy series The Outpost was brought into the fold last month. As the network has filled its in-season coffers, expanding its schedule to Sundays and putting forth 10 projects in serious development, they’ve now turned their attention to summer, which has traditionally been a home for unscripted series Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, and Masters of Illusion. International scripted content is a cost effective way of upping their original hours and giving themselves a stronger presence during the warmest months of the year, something that could help boost their fall.

From Brad Simpson (Rookie Blue), Burden of Truth tells the story of a lawyer (Kreuk) who returns to her hometown for what she thinks will be a simple case. Once she gets a good look at what lies before her, though, she realizes that she’s in for the legal fight of her life, all in the name of a group of sick girls who need her.

In addition to Kreuk, Burden of Truth stars Peter Mooney (Rookie Blue), Alex Carter (NCIS), Benjamin Ayres (Saving Hope), Nicola Correia-Damude (Shadowhunters), Meegwun Fairbrother (Hemlock Grove), and newcomer Star Slade.

You can check out a trailer for Burden of Truth, which has almost finished airing its first season in Canada, below.
