With the success of Riverdale, another Archie Comics adaptation is coming in the form of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina — but instead of Riverdale’s CW home, Sabrina is headed straight to Netflix.
Because they will be airing in different places, we asked Executive Producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa about the chances of there still being a crossover, during a recent Q&A at The CW’s headquarters in Burbank.
“TBD,” the producer said. “It’s been talked about. Greg [Berlanti] always says, ‘say never say never’ because who knows what’s gonna happen. In success, anything’s possible. It would be fun. Who knows?”
Greg Berlanti certainly knows of this practice, as it was originally stated that Supergirl would not be in the same universe as shows like Arrow or The Flash. Though dimensional travel was involved, we saw eventually that those two worlds could indeed intersect.
Vampire Diaries and Originals genius Julie Plec, who was also at the Q&A to promote this week’s Riverdale which she directed, revealed that The CW once wanted Vampire to attempt a crossover with Supernatural.
“In Season 1 or 2 of Vampire Diaries, they approached us about maybe doing some kind of Supernatural crossover,” Plec revealed. “Kevin [Williamson] and I were like ‘absolutely not, because we are vampires and werewolves. We don’t have demons. We don’t have Hell. We don’t have the Devil. We don’t have any of that stuff! It’s like two completely different supernatural universes!’ But now looking back with some distance, that would have been fun!”
Plec’s episode of Riverdale, “Chapter Twenty-Six: The Tell-Tale Heart,” airs this Wednesday on The CW. Take a look at some photos from the episode!
