TV Line is reporting that VH1 has officially pulled the plug on Daytime Divas, its last remaining scripted series.
The news isn’t quite a surprise considering the length of time since the show’s season finale and the fact that, as part of Viacom’s recent restructuring, VH1 is getting out of the scripted content business. There had been a chance for the network to send Daytime Divas to BET the same way they did with Hit the Floor and The Breaks; however, Divas failed to generate the buzz and ratings of those shows and with BET set to do business with the prolific Tyler Perry, there likely wasn’t enough room for the show to move forward.
Based on the book Satan’s Sisters by Star Jones and developed for television by Amy and Wendy Engelberg (Drop Dead Diva), Daytime Divas followed the behind the scenes antics at daytime talk show The Lunch Hour, including the escalating feud between Queen B Maxine (Vanessa Williams) and show comedian Mo (Tichina Arnold), the sobriety issues of its former child star co-host Kibby (Chloe Bridges), and the involvement Maxine’s son Shawn (McKinley Freeman) had with the death of Maxine’s husband.
In addition to those listed, Daytime Divas also starred Camille Guaty (Happyland), Fiona Gubelmann (Wilfred), and Norm Lewis (Scandal).
The two-hour series finale of Daytime Divas aired Monday, July 31st on VH1.
