HBO has announced that acclaimed political comedy Veep will be wrapping its run with its upcoming seventh season, set to premiere in 2018.
“The decision to bring Veep to a close at the end of next season is bittersweet,” said Casey Bloys, president, HBO Programming. “We love the show and everyone involved but respect the producers’ choice to bring Selina Meyer’s journey to its conclusion after an extraordinary run of critical and award-winning acclaim. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ comedic brilliance infused Selina with a dynamic presence and a vibrant wit which will ensure her a place in the history of television’s most iconic comedic characters. We look forward to producing the seventh and final season.”
Created by Armando Iannucci (The Thick of It), with the last two seasons ran by David Mandel (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Veep follows beleaguered Vice President Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) as she deals with the slings and arrows that come with the second highest office in the land. Throughout its first six seasons, the show has chronicled Selina’s dealings with power – craving it, possessing it, and losing it. The sixth season finale found the former acting-POTUS ready to run for office once again.
In addition to Louis-Dreyfus, who has won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Comedy Actress for the first five seasons, Veep stars Tony Hale (Arrested Development), Anna Chlumsky (My Girl), Matt Walsh (Ted), Reid Scott (The Big C), Timothy Simons (Inherent Vice), Kevin Dunn (Warrior), Gary Cole (Pineapple Express), and Sam Richardson (Detroiters). The series is part of a lengthy comedy slate for HBO that includes everything from Divorce and Curb Your Enthusiasm to Ballers, Insecure, and Silicon Valley.
