Lucifer Season 2 Extended to 22 Episodes by FOX

FOX has announced that the second season of DC Comic-based crime drama Lucifer has been extended to 22 episodes, thereby giving the show a full season. As a show that premiered last midseason and moved to fall, Lucifer was only originally given a 13-episode order, but a solid ratings performance has granted it the nine extra episodes.

“Lucifer continues to deliver, with great blasts of dark humor and ambitious storytelling. The show has turned out to be a true wicked pleasure, the perfect companion to Gotham, and we couldn’t be more pleased to order these nine additional episodes,” said FOX entertainment president David Madden.

Lucifer becomes the second 2015-16 midseason show to receive a back order, following the quick announcement NBC made about Thursday comedy anchor Superstore. Still awaiting the possibility of more episodes are ABC family comedy The Real O’Neals and The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow, though the latter might have a “full season” be closer to 16 episodes vs. 22.

Based on the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Lucifer stars Tom Ellis (Rush) as the title character, a fallen angel bored with his duties as the Lord of Hell. Rather than continue exacting punishments against the denizens of Hell once they reach the Underworld, he decides to “retire” to Los Angeles and get his jollies helping the LAPD catch criminals here on Earth.

In addition to Ellis, Lucifer stars Kevin Alejandro (True Blood), DB Woodside (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica), Lesley-Ann Brandt (Spartacus), and Scarlett Estevez (Daddy’s Home).

Lucifer airs tonight at 9:00 on FOX. You can check out a preview of the episode here.
