MONDAY
CRAIG: 8:00 9-1-1; 9:00 Deputy
SHILO: 8:00 The Resident; 9:00 9-1-1
ACTUAL SCHEDULE: 8:00 9-1-1; 9:00 Prodigal Son
CRAIG: I still think Deputy would have been a better match with 9-1-1, and who knows, maybe it’ll land there at midseason. With that said, though, Prodigal Son looks to be quality, and I found myself very curious after watching the trailer. With schedule real estate so limited, I guess it’s not surprising that a big spot like being the 9-1-1 lead-out would go to a show like this.
SHILO: What threw me about Mondays is that FOX’s schedule last year was all about pleasing the affiliates, so I assumed that they would pull an Empire and avoid moving their big drama to 8:00 in season two. But here we are with 9-1-1 assuming lead-in duties, having been paired with serial killer thriller Prodigal Son. I don’t necessarily mind 9-1-1 at 8:00 since it’s something that could resonate with the local lead-in audience and the extra hour of Same Day viewing could be good for it. What I wonder about is the compatibility with Prodigal Son, which looks darker in tone and much less action-heavy and soapy than its lead-in. Granted, FOX has gotten serial killer shows sampled before following procedurals (e.g. Bones/The Following in 2013), but I just feel like it might be too different from 9-1-1 in tone, scope, and live viewing urgency/immediacy to fully work.
