The CW’s new update of The 4400 titled simply 4400 premieres tonight (October 25) on the network. The reimagining of the original USA Network series has an updated premise and storyline which sees people missing throughout time and all appearing in the present day, many with new gifts, abilities, and powers. While there is an intriguing sci-fi premise, the show is at its best through its character work, as the series is populated with a very talented core cast.

Speaking at a recent virtual press day for the show, Co-Showrunner Ariana Jackson confirmed that they are, indeed, fans of the original, but we should not expect the same story.

“It’s a reimagining of the premise of The 4400, a show I loved very, very much,” she said. “We have all new characters, a whole new story around this similar premise that 4400 people who had gone missing throughout time [and then] appear suddenly in one time and one place. We’re taking that premise and exploring it in a different way, with new characters, and new stories, and new depths from the premise. We are taking what we need to tell our story, and veering off in different directions, as well.”

One of the series leads, Joseph David-Jones of Arrow fame, loved the original series growing up, and was drawn even further into the project based on the script. “It was one of the very few shows that I watched with my family, as a family,” he recalled. “So I loved the concept already, but using that to address social issues in our world today and, give representation for so many different types of characters who aren’t represented on camera, it was everything that I wanted to lend my voice to as an actor. When I read the script, I was like, ‘I want to be a part of this’.”

When Joseph David-Jones’ role of Jharrel came around, it seemed perfect for the actor. “He’s so close to who I am, just in general as a person, to a fault, I would say. He is always trying to do the right thing and help people, but on his own terms, and a lot of the time, that blows up in his face.”

You will get to meet Jharrel and the people of the 4400 tonight at 9PM ET/PT on The CW. See some preview images and more here at KSiteTV!
