After an exceptionally strong debut on Monday that hit a 3.8 in the 18-49 demo and over 17 million total viewers, CBS single cam Young Sheldon has received its back-nine, bringing its first season to 22 episodes. That makes it the first new series of the 2017-18 season to receive an extension.
From Chuck Lorre (Mom) and Steven Molaro (The Big Bang Theory), Young Sheldon follows 9-year-old genius Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) as he struggles to fit in socially in an East Texas high school and connect with a family who only sometimes understands him.
In addition to Armitage, Young Sheldon stars Zoe Perry (Scandal), Lance Barber (The Comeback), Montana Jordan (The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter), and Raegan Revord (Modern Family). Having received a straight-to-series order this past March, the series is part of a slate of newbies this fall for CBS that includes military drama SEAL Team, time-hopping comedy Me, Myself & I, crime drama Wisdom of the Crowd, and cop drama SWAT.
The second episode of Young Sheldon is set to air Thursday, November 2nd at 8:30 on CBS.
