Young Justice “Satisfaction” Recap & Review

After a long hiatus, Young Justice: Invasion is finally back and so are my reviews! This week, I look at the first episode back, titled “Satisfaction.”

    Official Synopsis:

“Roy Harper seeks vengeance against the man who ruined his life.”

    Review:

With the little information that we had about “Satisfaction,” I didn’t know how big it was going to be. Since it has been such a long time since the show was on, I had to go back and watch the first seven episodes of this season to remember where our heroes were last we saw them.

I have always enjoyed Roy Harper/Red Arrow as he has been one of the show’s most complicated characters, and it was a joy to finally see his story arc as both Roy Harper and the clone progress. I did, however, have some issues with the original Roy in the hospital scene, mostly on his anger at Oliver for not trying to find him. From my point of view, I think that Roy was overreacting and not looking at the situation as a whole; until it was revealed that the Roy – that Oliver had been working with for the past eight years – was a clone, there was never any reason to think that he wasn’t the real Roy. Once Oliver learned that Roy was a clone and that the real Roy Harper was out there somewhere, he did try to find the real Roy.

So, I didn’t like Roy’s attitude towards Oliver. At the same time, he has gone through a lot of pain – like losing an arm for starters – for eight years so maybe this is just a case of post traumatic stress disorder. The events that happened after the opening scene, was filled with action and confrontation that Young Justice does best and although I haven’t read that many Green Arrow comics, when he said that he was going by the name “Arsenal,” I got excited.

It was very convenient that the return of Young Justice was a Green Arrow-Red Arrow episode as we are getting closer to the series premiere of  the live action Arrow on The CW. I’m dying to see what twists that cybernetic arm will have, because if there is one thing that heroes should know, is to never accept a gift from Lex Luthor… does anyone recall the S-shields that Conner got from him?

As for the other plots in the episode, the aftermath of Artemis’s “death” was also a focus as we got to see the reactions of her family members, as well as some of the members of the team. I don’t know how to feel about Sportmaster and Chesire’s plan to deal with Black Manta and Aqualad, but it will be interesting to see a scenario where they find out that Artemis is alive. While the archers were busy with their adventures, we got to see some of the female heroes having fun on Rocket’s bridal shower that gets interrupted by Captain Cold whose actions in this episode really didn’t have any impact…at all.

In addition to the awesome shot of the seven heroines lined up, (all that was needed here to make it absolutely awesome, was Supergirl), Captain Cold’s action was a head-scratcher, and I was sitting there thinking “Did I miss something? What was that scene supposed to do for the episode?” I guess that they needed to have some more action scenes that weren’t Arrow-related.

There were some other moments in the episode that were enjoyable and are worth mentioning:

     * In the scene with the the hall of fallen teammates, we got quick glimpses at the previous Blue Beetle, Ted Kord (who was killed by The Light) and also a previous Robin, presumably, Jason Todd. Could this possibly be a hint that we might see a certain Red Hood appearing soon?

    * In the discussion during the holographic tribute, where Bart expresses that he thinks that tributes of deceased heroes should be in the public, it was interesting to hear Jaime’s feeling on never getting to meet the previous Blue Beetle.

*The cute interaction between Conner and Wendy, where Conner embarrasses himself when she asks how hold he is turning, I just love the way he said “22! I’m turning 22 at six!” it was just adorable.

That wraps it up; a great return episode and hopefully, Young Justice won’t go on any more long, mysterious breaks.

Great recap and review Andy! A lot of these theories we have in common, and I’m glad Dan & I aren’t the only one’s who think that way. Can’t wait for today’s episode!!!
