Deadline is reporting that upcoming Paramount Network drama Yellowstone has added Wes Bentley (American Horror Story), True Detective alum Kelly Reilly, and Rogue‘s Cole Hauser. Bentley will be playing polished lawyer Jamie, who continually seeks validation from a father he’s distant with; Reilly is cast as Sarah, a smart, resourceful woman ready to protect her loved ones at any cost; and Hauser is set to play Rip Wheeler, a merciless wrangler who never stops until he gets the job done.
From Taylor Sheridan (Hell or High Water), Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, owners and operators of the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. Led by patriarch John (Kevin Costner), the family is tasked with defending their land from all comers, whether it be politicians, land developers, or oil executives. Bentley and Reilly portray two of John’s children, with Luke Grimes (Brothers & Sisters) recently cast as Cory Dutton, the emotionally reserved youngest member of the family and an ex-NAVY Seal.
Apart from two HBO pilots (2011’s Tilda and 2014’s Open), this will be Bentley’s first non-American Horror Story television credit. Meanwhile, Reilly has been seen on Black Box, Above Suspicion, and Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Hauser’s credits include The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, Chase, and K-Ville.
Yellowstone is the first original series developed and ordered specifically for Paramount Network, which is the rebranded identity of Spike TV that will come into effect in 2018. The network will have Spike originals The Mist and The Shannara Chronicles in contention for renewal, while comedies American Woman and Heathers, as well as limited series Waco, are already set to air on Paramount.
