Syfy has set a premiere date for the long-gestating fourth season of cult favorite Wynonna Earp. The series, which last aired in September 2018, will return Sunday, July 26th at 10:00.
However, due to production delays resulting from the global coronavirus pandemic, only the first six episodes of season four were completed, meaning that instead of getting 12 straight episodes, fans will have a midseason finale on August 30th. The remaining six episodes will be completed once production is allowed to resume later this summer in Calgary.
It’s been a long journey to get season four of Wynonna Earp, as the series had been plagued by the financial difficulties of IDW Publishing and an uncertain international Netflix deal. Originally production on season four was set to begin in early 2019, but things weren’t straightened out until that July, with production kicking off later that year.
Wynonna Earp is part of a scripted slate for Syfy that’s been shrinking as of late. Currently, it’s only joined by Canadian imports Vagrant Queen and Van Helsing, the former still awaiting word on its second season and the latter headed into a final go-around. The network recently gave series orders to Child’s Play series take Chucky, George A. Romero adaptation Day of the Dead, and haunted house realtor series The Surrealtor.
