HBO’s Watchmen project based on the classic DC Comics graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons is back on, and this time, LOST’s Damon Lindelof is in talks to be involved, according to a story at The Hollywood Reporter. Original Watchmen movie director Zack Snyder was tied to an earlier version of the project; he is “no longer on board” and has recently suffered a tragic loss in his family that even led him to pass the reins to Joss Whedon to finish Justice League.
Lindelof recently worked with HBO on The Leftovers; at the time of this writing, the studio and HBO have not confirmed this news.
The 1986 Watchmen series was published by DC Comics and is considered one of the most influential and important graphic novels of its day; it is also among the best-selling. The Watchmen characters are currently becoming more tied to the greater DC Comics universe with the current “Rebirth” initiative and more direct crossovers may be coming later this year in the comics.
Hopefully more news about this Lindelof-HBO project will come soon. If you haven’t read the original Watchmen graphic novel already, you really should.
