Starz has added five series regulars to the cast of upcoming half-hour drama Vida, which was given a straight-to-series order in September.

Mishel Prada (Tell Me How I Die) will play Emma, who reluctantly attends her mother’s funeral after being estranged from Lyn for years, in a recasting situation; previously cast Melissa Barrera (is set as party girl Ivy, who’s living a carefree existence in the Bay Area when she gets word of her mother’s passing; Karen Ser Anzoategui (East Los High) will portray Eddy, whose sensitivity and generosity are a sharp contrast from her intimidating presence; Chelsea Rendon (A Better Life) can be seen as deeply political Marisol; Carlos Miranda (Warrior) will play Johnny, a guy with history with Lyn who runs his father’s auto body shop in order to support his pregnant girlfriend; and Maria-Elena Laas (American Weapon) will portray enigmatic lesbian Cruz, who has a history with Emma.

Vida is one of two half-hour dramas Starz ordered recently, along with restaurant series Sweetbitter. The series joins a scripted slate for Starz that includes The Girlfriend Experience, Outlander, and Ash vs Evil Dead.
