The cast and producers of The CW's Vampire Diaries descended upon San Diego this past weekend for Comic-Con -- you can see some photos of the events here -- and while they were there, we caught up with several of them at a SDCC Vampire Diaries press room. One of the folks we spoke with was Ian Somerhalder, who plays "Damon Salvatore" on TVD.
"Typically when people are going into Season 5 of a show, the storylines have been played out multiple times. There's not really much left," he said, before pointing out the advantage that The Vampire Diaries has. "We are extremely fortunate enough, I think right now at this moment in time, to be rejuvenated by the story. Silas has come into the mix. Damon and Elena are finally together, however they're doing the whole tangible metaphor everybody does in life, where someone goes off to college and someone stays in town, except for now, it's that he's 172 and she's 18. That gives a whole new meaning to 'robbing the cradle.' I think if Elena told any of her professors that she was dating a guy that was almost 175, they might form an opinion and have a bit of a reaction."
