MTV has revealed the performance lineup for the second episode of its upcoming TRL revival. The episode will feature boy band PRETTYMUCH, Atlanta rapper Playboy Carti, and younger Cyrus sister Noah, all of whom will follow episode one musical guest Ed Sheeran and Migos in building the live countdown show for a new generation.
Debuting in 1997 as subdued Total Request before becoming Total Request Live (or TRL), TRL ran for a decade on MTV and gave Carson Daly the platform to eventually land his NBC late-night show and subsequent hosting gig on The Voice. Known for generating massive Times Square crowds, creating unpredictable moments, and those infamous shout outs in the middle of videos, the show was the network’s prime outlet for music videos and fostered music culture at a time before MTV was a primarily unscripted network.
Hosted by D.C. Young Fly and the TRL squad which includes Tamara Dhia, Amy Pham, Erik Zachary, Lawrence Jackson and content creators such as Liza Koshy and The Dolan Twins, the revival of TRL, part of MTV’s recent push to re-embrace its music roots through live programming, is set to premiere Monday, October 2nd at 3:30 on MTV.
