BET has set the premiere date for the second season of HBCU drama The Quad. The series, which was renewed this past spring alongside VH1 transplant Hit the Floor and since-cancelled The Breaks, will be returning Tuesday, January 23rd at 10:00.
From Felicia D. Henderson (The Punisher), Charles Holland (Playmakers), and Rob Hardy (Think Like a Man), The Quad takes place at Georgia A&M University and follows its newly elected president Dr. Eva Fletcher (Anika Noni Rose) as she attempts to pull the school from the brink of financial ruin. The series also chronicles the growing pains that a group of freshmen deal with upon entering school, with special emphasis on the cutthroat nature of the A&M marching band program.
Season two of The Quad finds A&M in as precarious a position as ever, with the inconsistencies in the university’s books making the possibility of joining Georgia’s large, public, and predominantly white university system in order to keep the doors open very real. The season picks up in the spring semester following a first season finale that featured Terrence’s suicide, Ced finding a sense of purpose thanks to Brolin, and Noni finding common ground with Ebonie.
Set to recur this season on The Quad, which is part of a scripted slate for BET that includes Hit the Floor, Being Mary Jane, and upcoming legal drama In Contempt, are Antwan “Big Boi” Patton Sr. (ATL), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Moesha), Debbi Morgan (Power), and RonReaco Lee (Survivor’s Remorse).
