ABC has released the trailer for workplace comedy The Mayor and in it, we see that the greatest blessings sometimes come in the most unexpected of packages.

From Jeremy Bronson (Speechless) and executive produced by Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), The Mayor follows small-time inner-city rapper Courtney Rose (Brandon Michael Hall), who toils away in the apartment he shares with his mother in hopes of getting his big break. Tired of not fulfilling his potential, he enters the city mayoral race looking for cheap publicity for his music career, only to shockingly pull off a win and force himself into the world of politics. Courtney could easily try to find a way out of the job he now finds himself in, but this might be the opportunity he needs to grow up and finally become the man he was always meant to be.

In addition to Smith, The Mayor stars Lea Michele (Glee), Bernard David Jones (Meet the Browns), newcomer Marcel Spears, and Yvette Nicole Brown (Community).

The Mayor is set to air Tuesdays at 9:30 on ABC. You can check out the network’s full fall schedule here.

Will you be watching? Do you think this show will fit in with the rest of ABC’s comedies? Would you like to see ABC venture out of the family comedy structure more often?
