Deadline is reporting that former MMA fighter Gina Carano (Haywire) has joined Disney+’s upcoming Star Wars series The Mandalorian. Details about her character are currently unavailable.
To be based on the iconic film franchise’s mythology, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as a lone wolf gunfighter from the planet Mandalore, also home to notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett and Jango Fett. The series, executive produced by Jon Favreau (Iron Man), is said to be set between the fall of the Empire and rise of the New Order.
The Mandalorian won’t be Disney+’s only Star Wars series, as the streaming service revived Star Wars: The Clone Wars for a seventh season as well as set a Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna. Disney+ has also ordered Ink & Paint, a docuseries focused on female artists who’ve worked on Disney classics; High School Musical: The Musical, about a group of teenagers putting on a production of High School Musical; and an adaptation of High Fidelity starring Zoe Kravitz.
This will be Carano’s second television role following a 2014 episode of FOX drama Almost Human. Her film credits include Deadpool, Fast & Furious 6, and Scorched Earth.
