Neither Eliot nor Margo were truly ready to rule Fillory. Though they might be talented magicians, the two spent their formative years at Brakebills more concerned with partying and hooking up than applying or preparing themselves, so the whiplash from going from carefree young adult to the people responsible for the lives of countless others was quite a lot to handle. However, both Eliot and Margo have grown considerably since first introduced to the crown and now realize the extent of the weight that sits on their shoulders and the relief that having their people behind them can give said weight. It helps immensely for a kingdom’s subjects to back its royalty, but just how far will Eliot and Margo be willing to go in order to prove themselves before a mass still wary of their very existence?
On the next episode of The Magicians, Eliot and Margo are facing war with Loria and find themselves flailing about looking for any kind of strategy. That is, until they’re informed that not only is magic allowed on the battlefield, they’d immediately earn the respect of the Fillorian people if the terms of the battle included hand-to-hand combat. No Fillorian High King had ever accepted the terms of a guerilla-style confrontation, so Eliot, having already beaten death once and looking for a way to jump start a regime that had been idle for too long, decides to make history by proposing a hand-to-hand battle with Loria. If he manages to defeat them with his army, he would be looked at as the toughest High King there ever was, a figure whose story will live on for ages and someone who the citizens of Fillory would be willing to give a lot of leeway and respect accordingly; however, if Eliot were to lose this battle, there might not be any coming back from it in the eyes of Fillory, either out of shame at the performance on the battlefield or out of grief over the death of their once High King.
Elsewhere on The Magicians, Julia’s quest to destroy Reynard continues, though her recklessness in working toward her goal could threaten her chance for vengeance, while Alice continues looking for ways to escape her Quentin-shaped prison and prove herself to Friar Joseph.
The Magicians airs Wednesdays at 9:00 on Syfy.
Will Eliot and Margo be able to emerge victorious against Loria and give their reputations with their citizens a necessary shot in the arm? Could Julia be her own worst enemy when it comes to tracking down and taking down Reynard? What lengths will Alice go to to free herself from Quentin once and for all?
