Upcoming Hulu space drama The First has added Designated Survivor‘s Natascha McElhone as a series regular, it was announced today.
“What I so admire about Natascha’s work is the fearlessness and honesty she brings to every role,” said series creator Beau Willimon. “She’s a wonderfully talented adventurer of the spirit, and I’m thrilled to be embarking on this journey with her.”
From Willimon (House of Cards), The First follows the first human mission to Mars and explores the difficulties facing not only the astronauts, but their loved ones and those on the ground helping to steer the mission toward success. McElhone’s role is said to be of a British CEO behind the mission to Mars.
In addition to her role on the ABC drama, which will conclude later this season, McElhone has appeared on the likes of Californication, Revelations, and Saints & Strangers. She’s the second piece of casting announced for the series, joining Sean Penn.
The First is set to begin production later this year. It will join a scripted slate for Hulu that includes The Path, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Harlots.
