Showtime has released the first trailer for upcoming drama The Chi, which is set to premiere Sunday, January 7th at 10:00.
From Emmy winner Lena Waithe (Master of None) and executive produced by Oscar winner Common (Selma), The Chi is an ensemble drama set in Chicago that focuses on a group of city residents connected by coincidence. The series spotlights everyone from pre-teen Kevin (Alex Hibbert), who must embrace the normal rites of childhood despite a tough home situation, to carefree teenager Emmett (Jacob Latimore), forced to embrace complex responsibility with the help of his mother, and Brandon (Jason Mitchell), a dreamer who takes a leap of faith in order to better his chances at success.
Also starring Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (Queen of Katwe), Yolonda Ross (The Get Down), Armando Riesco (Bull) and Tiffany Boone (The Following), The Chi joins a scripted roster for Showtime that includes Homeland, Billions, and Shameless. It’ll be one of several new shows premiering in 2018 on Showtime, including miniseries Escape at Dannemora, Oliver Stone’s Guantanamo, and Kidding, which stars Jim Carrey.
