Hulu has announced that upcoming animated comedy The Bravest Knight will be premiering Friday, June 21st. Of the show’s initial 13 episode order, five will be released in June with the other eight arriving later this year.
Based on Daniel Errico’s children’s book The Bravest Knight Who Ever Lived, The Bravest Knight finds former pumpkin farmer turned full-fledged knight Sir Cedric (T.R. Knight) recounting his journeys to daughter Nia (Storm Reid), who’s training to become a knight herself. The series will attempt to convey such principles as honor, justice, and compassion; show that knighthood is much more than slaying dragons; and prove that it’s possible to find your prince charming along the way – in Cedric’s case, Prince Andrew.
The Bravest Knight will be one of the first children’s television series with an openly gay main character. The series is set to feature voice work from the likes of RuPaul, Christine Baranski, Wanda Sykes, Wilson Cruz, Teri Polo, Steven Weber, Donna Murphy, AJ McLean, Dot-Marie Jones, Maz Jobrani, and Chance Hurstfield.
It joins a slate of kids’ programming for the streamer that includes Find Me in Paris, Holly Hobbie, and Doozers.
