E! has announced that Hollywood drama The Arrangement has been renewed for a 10-episode second season, which should launch early next year.
“As E!’s second successful foray into scripted, we are thrilled to see the show resonate with viewers and gain momentum throughout the season. Continuing to fuel our audience’s passion for pop culture and celebrity, The Arrangement allows us to reveal a darker side of Hollywood that has never been seen before,” said Adam Stotsky, President, E! Entertainment and Esquire Network. “Alongside our partners at Universal Cable Productions, we’re excited to watch this intriguingly unpredictable story continue to unfold in a second season.”
From Jonathan Abrahams (Mad Men), The Arrangement follows aspiring actress Megan Morrison (Christine Evangelista) as she goes on a movie audition and winds up with a relationship with lead actor Kyle West (Josh Henderson). However, after Megan agrees to the $10 million marriage contract she’s presented with not long after meeting Kyle, she’s forced to realize that their relationship isn’t going to follow a normal trajectory, not with the amount of restrictions placed on her and not when Kyle is at the mercy of the Institute of the Higher Mind, ran by mentor Terrence (Michael Vartan).
The success of The Arrangement has been good for E!’s foray into original scripted television, which began with (recently renewed) The Royals. Had it not found an audience, which it has as the second biggest scripted cable launch of 2017 in its target demo, E!’s scripted presence likely would be scaled back and probably conclude with the eventual cancellation of The Royals. However, there is an audience for shows like The Royals and The Arrangement and with very few cable networks going after it, E! is in a good position to carve out a nice little niche for itself.
The Arrangement airs Sundays at 10:00 on E!.
