The Syfy pilot Three Inches has announced more actors have been added to the cast in addition to the recent high-profile announcement of James Marsters.

Syfy’s Three Inches has added an all-star cast to the 90-minute pilot, starring Noah Reid (Strange Days at Blake Holsey High). James Marsters (Smallville, Caprica, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Andrea Martin (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, SCTV Network), Stephanie Jacobsen (Melrose Place, Battlestar Galactica: Razor), Antony Del Rio (The Super Hero Squad Show), Naoko Mori (Torchwood), Kyle Schmid (Blood Ties) and Brandon Jay McLaren (TRON: Legacy, Harper’s Island) will join the action-adventure/fantasy as series regulars. Alona Tal (Veronica Mars), Craig Eldridge (Covert Affairs) and Julian Richings (Supernatural) will guest star in the pilot episode.

Three Inches, from Fox Television Studios and Landscape Entertainment, will begin production in Toronto, Canada on Monday, August 30.

In Three Inches, professional daydreamer and underachiever, Walter Spackman (Reid) is struck by lightning, and develops a unique “super” power — the ability to move any object using just his mind… but only a distance of three inches. He’s soon recruited by a covert team of superheroes each gifted with their own extraordinarily ordinary abilities. Together, the unlikely band of heroes proves that “super” is simply a state of mind.

Jace Alexander (Rescue Me, Prison Break) is directing the pilot, written by Harley Peyton (Twin Peaks), who also serves as executive producer. Fox Television Studios is producing with Executive Producer Robert Cooper, through his company Landscape Entertainment. J.J. Jamieson heads up television for Landscape Entertainment.

James Marsters will star as Troy Hamilton, a former government agent who takes Walter in to his own team of “super” heroes who fight evil wherever they find it. He is a father figure to Walter.

Andrea Martin will play Belinda Spackman, Walter’s mother, a brutally honest, comically cynical force of nature that loves her son more than words can say and will do anything to protect him.

Stephanie Jacobsen plays Watts, a beautiful “super” hero who has the ability to shape the emotions of anyone she meets at close range.

Antony Del Rio will portray The Human Smell, an adventurous, often irritating teenager who is able to emit a pungent gas through his pores that disables anyone nearby.

Naoko Mori plays Annika, a woman who can duplicate and broadcast any sound she hears.

Kyle Schmid will play Brandon, the “super” hero team leader with all the cockiness and strength of a true action hero, minus the superpowers. He is the opposite of Walter and sees most of the team as freaks.

Brandon Jay McLaren plays Macklin Sportello, Walter’s best friend, a big talker with not a lot to back it up. His relationship is tested when Walter begins to change, but he’s the friend that will always be there for him.

Alona Tal will guest star in the pilot as Lily Theroux, the kind, pretty girl next door and Walter’s long time crush who loves him but “not in that way.”

Craig Eldridge will guest as Todd, part of Troy’s team of “super” heroes who can see two minutes into the future at the cost of a massive disabling headache.

Julian Richings will also appear as a guest star playing Ethan, a man with the ability to communicate with and control the insect kingdom.

Deadline.com is reporting that Canadian actor Noah Reid will be taking the lead role in the Syfy pilot Three Inches. He plays a character named Walter, who is described as “a twentysomething underachiever who acquires a seemingly worthless superpower after getting struck by lightning: he can move any object three inches with his mind. He goes on to recruit a team of fellow heroes, each with their own less-than-spectacular abilities.”

The pilot will be directed by Jace Alexander and the script is by Harley Peyton.

Syfy has announced that Malik Yoba and Laura Menell have joined the cast of their new pilot Alphas.

New York, New York – July 29, 2010 – Syfy has announced additional casting for its previously announced pilot Alphas, inking actors Malik Yoba and Laura Mennell to co-star in the wry action-adventure project from writers Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand, The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk) and Michael Karnow, it was announced today by Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions, which is the studio for the project. Alphas is executive produced by Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein for BermanBraun Television and will be directed by Jack Bender (director and executive producer of Lost). It is slated to commence production next month in Toronto.

Alphas follows a team of ordinary citizens whose brain anomalies imbue them with extraordinary mental and physical abilities. Taking the law into their own hands, the unlikely team, led by Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn) investigates cases that suggest other Alpha activity to uncover what the CIA, FBI and Pentagon have not been able or willing to solve. These gifted individuals must balance their quirky personalities and disparate backgrounds with their not always visible powers as they work to solve crimes, stop the ticking time bomb and catch the enemy.

Yoba plays Alphas team member Bill Harken, a former FBI agent from working class roots.  Harken’s Alpha skill allows him to intentionally activate a “fight-or-flight mechanism” producing a power surge of adrenaline giving him increased strength, speed and immunity from pain.

Mennell plays the complicated Alpha team member Nina Theroux.  Seductive, intelligent and confident, Nina’s Alpha ability allows her to influence people into doing whatever she wishes but her power can sometimes spin out of control. Her skill also comes with a personal drawback in that she can never be sure if anyone’s feelings for her are real. Nina was the first team member enlisted by Dr. Rosen to whom she remains extremely loyal.

“Malik and Laura are perfect additions to an already impressive ensemble cast. They both have great intensity and charisma,” said Stern.  “We look forward to seeing them breathe life into the complex characters of Harken and Nina.”

Malik Yoba is well known for his co-starring role as NYPD detective J.C. Williams on the popular police drama New York Undercover from 1994 to 1998, and has also appeared in the feature films Why Did I Get Married? (2007), Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010), Cool Runnings (1993) and Criminal (2004).  He has made numerous television appearances including on the series Arrested Development as Ice, a bounty hunter whose real love is party planning, and the recurring character Brock Harris on the sitcom Girlfriends.  Yoba also appeared in the crime drama Thief and the NBC crime drama Raines, and portrayed astronaut Ted Shaw on the futuristic drama Defying Gravity.

Malik Yoba is represented by Kieran Maguire of The Arlook Group and Steve Muller at Innovative Artists.

Laura Mennell is a Canadian actress best known for her portrayal of Janey Slater in the feature film Watchmen, Lily Mercy in television movie Montana Sky (2007) and the Emmy nominated television movie Flight 93 (2006), which chronicled the events aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001.

Laura Mennell is represented by Vicki Petronio-King for Play Management Inc.

Leading the cast will be critically lauded actor David Strathairn, who earned rave reviews and received Best Actor Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild (SAG), and Academy Award nominations for his portrayal of Edward R. Murrow in the film Good Night, and Good Luck.  Strathairn plays the unconventional, eccentric Alphas team leader Dr. Lee Rosen. Though he comes across as somewhat of an absent-minded professor at times, he is also a cunning and manipulative power-player willing to bend the rules in pursuit of his objectives and in support of his Team.

Deadline.com is reporting that Warren Christie has joined the cast of Syfy’s upcoming series Alphas.

Here are the details, courtesy of that site:

Christie (Happy Town) will play Christian Hicks, a new recruit on the team with a history of psychological problems, drug abuse and an anti-authoritarian streak whose Alpha skill is hyperkinesis – near-perfect dexterity and hand/eye coordination.

EW’s Michael Ausiello has revealed that Smallville’s starkilling Doomsday, Sam Witwer, has landed the role of vampire Aidan in Syfy’s U.S. adaptation of Being Human.

Possibly joining Witwer in the cast is Superman Returns’ Jimmy Olsen, Sam Huntington, as the werewolf Josh — a role that Aaron Ashmore auditioned for. Ausiello is also reporting that Meaghan Rath (The Assistants) will be playing the ghost, Molly.

Being Human U.S. will premiere later this year, if all goes well. The series, already a popular hit in the United Kingdom, revolves around three roommates who happen to be a werewolf, a ghost, and a vampire. Season 1 of the British series will be coming to DVD in the U.S. on July 20.

Syfy’s adaptation of the comic strip classic The Phantom hits the United States on Sunday night, and KSiteTV’s Craig Byrne has posted an advance review at our Phantom portal, Phantomsite.net.

Syfy has announced some big plans for the July-starting second season of Warehouse 13, including three veterans from Joss Whedon’s Firefly. Here’s the official press release:

NEW YORK – March 25, 2010 – Warehouse 13, the most successful series in Syfy history, today announced that Gina Torres will join Firefly alums Jewel Staite and Sean Maher as guest stars during the second season, which kicks off in July. The series is currently in production in Toronto.

Philip Winchester (Crusoe) and Paula Garces (Defying Gravity) will also appear as guest stars this year.

Torres and Garces’ roles are both love interests for Pete (Eddie McClintock)

Torres, who portrayed “Zoe Washburne” in Firefly, plays “Kate,” an agent from Pete’s past.

Garces, who played “Paula Morales” in Defying Gravity and “Officer Tina Hanlon” in The Shield, assumes the recurring role of “Kelly,” a sexy, spunky, headstrong veterinarian in the Warehouse town of Univille who catches Pete’s eye.

In the episode featuring Philip Winchester (“Jack Chase” in Alice), Pete and Myka discover an object in the Warehouse town of Univille is transmitting increasingly dangerous scenes from old Hollywood movies. Winchester plays 1950s matinee idol “Raymond St. James,” the star of these movies, in roles which include a Cowboy, a Marine, a Gladiator and a Mad Scientist.

Warehouse 13 follows two Secret Service agents who find themselves abruptly transferred to a massive, top-secret storage facility in windswept South Dakota which houses every strange artifact, mysterious relic, fantastical object and supernatural souvenir ever collected by the U.S. government. The Warehouse’s caretaker Artie (Saul Rubinek) charges Pete (Eddie McClintock) and Myka (Joanne Kelly) with chasing down reports of supernatural and paranormal activity in search of new objects to cache at the Warehouse, as well as helping him to control the Warehouse itself.

In its first season, Warehouse 13 became the all-time Syfy leader in total viewers (4.1 million), Adults 25-54 (2.1 million) and Household ratings (2.9), as measured by 7-Day DVR data.

The Syfy Channel has officially announced the U.S. television premiere of Merlin Season 2 on April 2; but in addition to that, an all-day Merlin marathon of Season 1 episodes is planned for Sunday, March 28.

To give viewers a chance to catch up before the new season two launch, Syfy will showcase all 13 hours of Merlin’s first season in a full day marathon Sunday, March 28, from 10AM-11PM (ET/PT).

An imaginative new twist on a timeless legend, Merlin is set in the mythical city of Camelot, before history began. It’s a fantastical realm of legendary beasts and mysterious peoples, and a dangerous world where magic has been banned by the ruthless tyrant, Uther Pendragon.

Merlin stars Colin Morgan as Merlin, Bradley James as Prince Arthur, Anthony Head as King Uther, Richard Wilson as Gaius, Katie McGrath as Morgana and Angel Coulby as Gwen.

In the season two premiere episode, new servant Cedric (Mackenzie Crook, The Office) threatens Merlin’s position as Arthur’s right-hand-man, turning the Prince against his loyal friend. Merlin is convinced the slippery newcomer is up to something and he’s right – Cedric is a con man and a thief who’s after a magnificent jewel recently unearthed in a tomb far beneath Camelot. Little does Cedric realize that his precious prize is more dangerous than he could possibly imagine.
