ABC has increased the monopoly Shonda Rhimes has on the network, as the super producer has gotten a fifth show on the air. This time, it’s Still Star-Crossed, a period drama that picks up where one of the most famous stories of love and loss left off.
From Heather Mitchell (Scandal) and executive produced by Rhimes, Still Star-Crossed follows the Montagues and Capulets, two ferocious families in Verona involved in a feud that gets further escalated by the deaths of star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet. The rift between the families has destabilized the kingdom in which they live, so much so that Prince Escalus (Sterling Sulieman) devises a plan to wed a Montague and Capulet in order to restore peace. However, the proposed union between Romeo’s cousin Benvolio (Wade Briggs) and Juliet’s cousin Rosaline (Lashana Lynch) doesn’t get off to a great start and threatens the sanctity of Verona as they knew it.
In addition to Sulieman, Briggs, and Lynch, Still Star-Crossed stars Torrance Coombs (Reign), Zuleikha Robinson (Homeland), and Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The series joins a fleet of Rhimes dramas that includes Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, The Catch, and How to Get Away with Murder.
ABC is set to unveil its 2016 fall schedule on Tuesday, May 17th. You can check out what KSiteTV thought the network could do next season here, as well as a first look at Still Star-Crossed below.
