New CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller spoke with critics this morning at the Television Critics Association Press Tour, and while there, he was asked if the new Star Trek series – which will be available on CBS All Access – was ever in development for the broadcast network, which will be airing the first episode in 2017.

“I can say I’m looking forward to seeing the new Star Trek. I think it’s going to be an exciting project. It was always designed for streaming service, and I’m just thrilled that we get to be a part of the launch. We’ll broadcast the pilot, and I’m not sure about the future plans creatively about new characters,” Geller says.

Might news about a writer be announced soon?

“I don’t have anything to do with it. It really is for All Access,” he admits. “So while the network will be broadcasting the pilot, I actually can’t answer any creative questions about it.”

Star Trek is scheduled to come to CBS All Access in 2017.
