CBS All Access has set a premiere date for animated Star Trek spinoff Star Trek: Lower Decks. The series will debut on the ViacomCBS streamer Thursday, August 6th and release episodes on a weekly basis.
From Mike McMahan (Rick & Morty), Star Trek: Lower Decks focuses on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, in 2380. Ensigns Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford, and Tendi have to keep up with their duties and their social lives, often while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies.
The series features voice work from Tawny Newsome (Space Force) as irreverent, laidback Beckett Mariner; Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games) as Brad Boimler, a stickler for the rules in hopes of becoming Captain someday; Noel Wells (Saturday Night Live) as Cerritos newcomer Tendi, who works in the medical bay; Eugene Cordero (Kong: Skull Island) as Cerritos ensign Rutherford, in the adjustment phase over a recent cyborg implant; Dawnn Lewis (A Different World) as Captain Carol Freeman; Jerry O’Connell (Stand by Me) as Cerritos commander Jack Ransom; Fred Tatasciore (Family Guy) as Bajoran lieutenant Staxs; and Gillian Vigman (Suburgatory) as T’Ana, Caitian doctor and head of medical aboard the Cerritos.
This will be the fifth Star Trek series on CBS All Access, with Lower Decks joining Discovery, Picard, Short Treks, and After Trek. The streamer has Discovery spinoff Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in line for 2021.
